One of the first WiMAX provider in Malaysia, Packet One (P1) will launched it’s WiMAX services in Malaysia officially today.

With it’s services ranging from 400Kbps to 2.4Mbps it is very likely that it will cover the needs of casual surfers to commercial users. The official press release by P1 indicates that they are provider for the vicinity of Klang Valley, namely KLCC, Setapak, Sentul, Gombak and Subang Jaya.

WiMAX service do not require any additional hardwares as long as you have a 802.11b or 802.11g enabled notebook computer or personal computer. Any new generation notebook computers would have such hardware device installed. Dubbed as HotZone, connectivity is as thought you are on a Hotspot, only that this is about 50KM radius!

The present Packet One website enable users to register and get activated online via their ‘no frill’ registration. User can choose to have 24 hours access (RM 5), 7 days access (RM 10) or 30 days access (RM 20). Payment is via FXP which is enabled on various Online Banking, or you can pay via Credit Card.

Feeling the lack of memory?

Intel’s Turbo Memory might be the answer to solve your memory woes. Intel is offering a ‘dashboard’ for WIndows that allows user to choose and control which applications that they want to load into the Intel Turbo cache which is based on flash memory chips, or your flash/thumb drives. Demonstrated in the latest version of Turbo memory, users can now pin applications or files to match your usage.

Windows Vista have a feature called “ReadyBoost” that can use storage from a flash drive to speed up your computer. It is interesting as we can expect the industry to fully make use of high speed flash drives to increase the memory intensive programs, or games.

Intel has announced that they will make a revision to the existing Extensible Host Controller Interface (xHCI) draft speficication revision 0.9 to make way for future computing needs. The USB 3.0 specification will be running at 600MB/s, roughly ten times what USB 2.0 can offer.

As the xHCI supports the compatibility among older USB devices, Intel claimed that with the specification revisions, it is also easier to develope software support for the industry.

With the increased demands for bandwidth, the USB 3.0 is the answer for the future computing.

If you are looking at getting yourself a Macbook Air, rumor has it that the Macbook Air is going to get a new heart all together, the new Penryn chip.

The Macbook Air has been on the news for quite some time, spotting Apple’s move introducing something more under performance compared to the Macbook line. The previous Macbook Air is based on a low powered customized chip codename Merom. The new Macbook Air’s Penryn Core 2 Duo processor will replace the current Merom chip.

IntelIntel recently posted a performance issues with its latest and perhaps the greatest Centrino 2 graphics silicon discussions.

The discussion focused on a critical feature of its Centrino 2. The Centrino 2 is currently seen as the only microprocessor that has the capabilities to integrate its graphics on the chipset itself, instead of the conventional graphic cards. The Centrino 2 is capable to play High Definition (HD) Video with its full hardware decode.

In a blog post by Aaron Brezenski, stated that the comparison that was done by the competitor on a recent event wasn’t clear cut and it wasn’t a fair comparison. On one occasion, the competitor claimed that the Intel’s are running at 95 to 100 percent CPU while running Blu-ray.

Brezenski claimed that it was evident that the Centrino 2 codenamed Montevina wasn’t at it’s peak performance judging from the spike of processor usage. He claims that hardware acceleration was not working properly.

While looking at the results of some test ran by testers, Brezenski thinks that it could be a player software issue that is not configured properly, which resulted in the increased processor load.

Intel

The Intel’s next generation generation Core i7 microprocessor will be the headline for Intel’s Developer Forum next week. Surprisingly, the spotlight is also on the Atom processor.

Intel will be planning to announce the new details on their solid-state disk (SSD) lineup. They will also feature their first quad-core mobile microprocessor.

Google Mail today confirmed that there was a problem with their contact system in GMail which started around 2100GMT yesterday. In a second statement released by Google via their Help Center stated that they have fixed the problem, but it was not sure what was the issue.

Steve Jobs has confirmed that there is a ‘kill switch’ build into the iPhone that allows Apple to remotely delete softwares that are of malicious or inappropriate.

After a software developer found a line of secret code burried in the iPhone’s operating system, Steve Jobs has step up and admited that there are such coding in their softwares. The line of codes seems to suggest that Apple might be keeping a list of blacklisted softwares, or something that Apple do not want iPhone users to have access to.

Intel has just released a press statement stating that new Intel chips will now formally carry the Core name.

Intel Core i7 Intel Core i7

The upcoming microarchitecture processor codenamed Nehalem will be formally branded as the new Intel Core Processor carrying the i7 identifier. There will be several new identifiers to differenciate different products in the future launched by Intel over the next coming years.

As we all know about the Nehalem chips are supposed to be a new achitecture with better power and heat management, the Extreme-class CPUs are still aimed at gamers, who generally spend more in return for better performance. Intel will however, use two logos on their newly named i7 that will be attached to boxes and machines to differenciate between the Extreme-class, or the regular desktop Core i7s.

Intel Intel Centrino 2 Mobile platform for notebooks released earlier this week includes several updates to its vPro technology that should in a way improve IT departments manage and secure business laptops.

The vPro itself is a platform that supports Intel’s Virtualization Technology so that you can run a separate maintenance operating system along with the primary one.
