Spyware in the new Apple iPhone?

|

Steve Jobs has confirmed that there is a ‘kill switch’ build into the iPhone that allows Apple to remotely delete softwares that are of malicious or inappropriate.

After a software developer found a line of secret code burried in the iPhone’s operating system, Steve Jobs has step up and admited that there are such coding in their softwares. The line of codes seems to suggest that Apple might be keeping a list of blacklisted softwares, or something that Apple do not want iPhone users to have access to.

Since the iPhone 3G has been released together with the Apple Application Store, iPhone and iPod Touch owners are able to install additional software on their device purchased from the Store. The owners can now customise their device with applications, and softwares to their needs.

Steve Jobs however insisted that the ‘kill switch’ is only there as a precaution.

While way back before the existence of the Apple Application Store, hackers had already had access to the software libraries of the iPhone and iPod Touch. Hackers have came up with various softwares, some similar if not better softwares that Apple Application Store could offer. Is this the switch that Mr Jobs might use to kill all the iPhone/iPod Touch users who are not using softwares from Apple Application Store? No one knows.
